The Poster – 99 to 107

This poster that I have long sought after by Jay Fletcher was originally printed in 2020 as the The Animal 99. I missed that print run and it has somewhat haunted me for the better part of the past five years; it would pop up into my head somewhat often and I'd be left with this feeling of what could be. In January 2025, Jay started to tease a new print run of this poster with some additions, making it The Animal 107.

I set the date of February 1st in my calendar and eagerly awaited the poster to go live on his shop. After clicking 'purchase', my daydreams of having this piece of art on my wall would soon turn into a reality!

Starting My YouTube Channel

I've been gearing up to start a YouTube channel centered around design for a while. I've been building a list of vids I want to make, setting up my recording situation. Getting in front of the camera to share and connect with the design world from my perspective has been a goal of mine. It's also a necessary step in building my online brand.

After I placed the oder for the poster, I knew that framing it would be the first vid on the new channel. Simple enough to record and exercise my video editing skills.

The Gear & the Edit

Framer just dropped this new tables feature in CMS so of course I gotta check it out! Here is the gear I used for filming this video ↓

Camera

Lenses

Lighting

Sony a6400

Sigma 16mm f1.4

Zhiyun Molus G60

Sony 50mm f1.8

Aerogarden (practical)

I edited and colour graded the video in Premiere Pro. I had the interesting challenge of trying to set the colour space for the video properly. I filmed in HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) so I could have increased dynamic range to work with while not overdoing it with something like S-Log or S-Cinetone (those are better for cameras that can shoot 10-bit video).

Adobe moved around the settings for converting the sequence and footage colour space from HLG to Rec709—after a bit of research I got it figured out! I'll be writing up an article on that and might just shoot a vid for it too! I'll link it here once I do. I wouldn't have learned where the settings were moved if I didn't record this video. Proof that starting this channel is helping me learn and grow!
